Dubai with kids, where the season decides the whole holiday
Dubai with kids at 2026 prices, with the Burj Khalifa prime-hour premium, the free under-fours, and why June to September is an entirely indoor trip.

Dubai is one of the easiest long-haul destinations in the world with children, and the single decision that shapes the trip is not where you stay or what you book. It is which half of the year you go in.
November to March: an outdoor holiday with beaches, a desert and evenings. June to September: an indoor holiday, and you should plan it as one from the start.

Dubai's summer is not a hot European summer. From roughly June to September the daytime heat and humidity make outdoor activity with small children genuinely unwise for most of the day, and the water parks and beaches that families come for stop being pleasant.
What still works in summer: the malls, which are enormous and air conditioned and contain aquariums, ski slopes and indoor theme parks; the Burj Khalifa, which is fully air conditioned; the indoor attractions generally.
What does not: the beach, the desert safari at midday, Dubai Safari Park, the outdoor water parks, and walking anywhere.
October to April is the window. November to March is the best of it, and it is also the peak, so rooms cost more. April, May and October are the honest shoulder: workable with a strict midday indoor block, and much cheaper.
What it costs, and one booking that saves money
The Burj Khalifa, At The Top on floors 124 and 125, checked September 2026:
| Adult | Child | |
|---|---|---|
| Non-prime hours | AED 173 | AED 140 |
| Prime hours, 4pm to 7pm | AED 250 | AED 158 |
| Under fours | Free | Free |
Children under four go free, and booking outside the 4pm to 7pm window saves a family of four a substantial amount. The prime window is sunset, which is genuinely the best light, and it is also the busiest and dearest slot of the day. With small children the mid-morning slot is the better trade in every respect: shorter queues, calmer observation deck, cheaper ticket.
IMG Worlds of Adventure, the indoor theme park, runs roughly AED 200 to 310 a ticket depending on the tier. Dubai's own tourism board keeps the attraction listings and current prices, which move with promotions more than most cities'.
The things that genuinely work
The malls, which are attractions rather than shops
The Dubai Mall contains an aquarium with a walk-through tunnel, an ice rink, a large indoor play area and the fountain show outside it, which runs every half hour in the evening and is free.
Mall of the Emirates has Ski Dubai, an indoor ski slope with a snow park, penguins and tobogganing, which is a genuinely strange and genuinely excellent thing to do with a seven-year-old in a desert.
This is not a consolation prize. In Dubai the mall is a civic space, and in summer it is where families actually spend their days.
The water parks
Aquaventure at Atlantis and Wild Wadi are both serious water parks with proper height-restricted zones and dedicated toddler areas.
Check the height charts before you buy. As everywhere, the gap between a 102 cm child and a 120 cm one is the difference between half the park and all of it, and that is worth knowing before a child is standing at a measuring pole.
The desert
A desert safari with children needs care in how you book it. The standard product includes dune bashing, which is a vehicle being driven fast over dunes and which is unsuitable for under-sixes and for anyone prone to motion sickness.
Ask for a non-dune-bashing option. Most operators run a gentler version with camel riding, sandboarding and a camp dinner, and it is the better family product. Go in the late afternoon, and only between October and April.
The old city, which most families skip
Al Fahidi and the Dubai Creek. Wind-tower houses, the museum, the spice and gold souks, and the abra, a small wooden boat that crosses the creek for a nominal fare and is the cheapest and most memorable ride in the city.
This is half a day and it is the half that will not look like an advert.
Getting around
The metro is clean, cheap, air conditioned and driverless, which means children can sit at the front and watch the track. It reaches Downtown, the Marina and Mall of the Emirates. Get a Nol card at any station.
Taxis are metered and inexpensive by European or Australian standards.
The thing to check: taxis do not automatically supply child seats. If you need one, arrange it with the hotel or book a family taxi service in advance rather than assuming.
A car buys you the desert, the further water parks and Abu Dhabi, and it costs you the parking and the driving, which in Dubai is fast and assertive.

Dubai is relaxed with visitors and it is still a Muslim country with rules that are enforced.
In practice, with a family: dress modestly away from hotels, beaches and pools, which means shoulders and knees covered in malls and public buildings. Public displays of affection are best avoided. During Ramadan, eating and drinking in public during daylight is restricted, hours change, and the evenings become extraordinary. A Ramadan family trip is a different holiday rather than a worse one, and it is worth going in knowingly.
What to skip
June to September, if the beach and the water parks are the point.
The Burj Khalifa at sunset with small children. More expensive, busier, and they will be tired.
A standard dune-bashing desert safari with under-sixes.
Booking a hotel without checking the pool. It is the most important amenity in the city for a family.
Trying to do Abu Dhabi as a day trip and a full Dubai day either side. It is about ninety minutes each way and it is a whole day.
Assuming taxis have child seats.
Before you book
Where to stay in Dubai is the neighbourhood breakdown, and with children the beach-versus-Downtown decision matters more than usual. Singapore with kids is the other hot-climate family guide on this desk and uses the same midday-indoors method, and how to plan a family trip is the wider method. Flying with a toddler and long haul flights with kids cover getting there, which for most families is the hard part. Where to stay in Istanbul covers the other common stopover on the same routes.
The Dubai city guide and the United Arab Emirates country guide carry the practicalities, and there is more in the with kids hub. When you are ready, Dubai rooms are here and the bookable half is here.
Prices checked September 2026. Dubai attraction pricing changes with promotions and seasonal offers more than in most cities, and the Burj Khalifa sells its own timed tickets, which is the place to confirm the prime and non-prime bands rather than any guide, this one included. Here is how we research and re-check guides.
