What we set
A short list, because there is no advertising to support. There is no consent banner on this site because there is nothing to consent to: everything below is either strictly necessary or a preference you chose yourself.
- Session cookie — strictly necessary. Keeps you signed in. Expires when the session ends or you sign out.
- Theme preference — functional. Remembers whether you chose dark or light. Stored locally, not sent to us.
- Currency and home-airport preference — functional. Remembers the settings you picked so you are not asked again. Stored locally.
- Analytics — measurement. Counts page views and outbound clicks in aggregate so we know which guides earn their place. It tells us "the Kyoto guide sent 400 clicks this month", not "this person clicked".
What we do not set
No advertising cookies. No cross-site tracking pixels. No social-network pixels. No fingerprinting. We do not sell or share what we collect for behavioural advertising, and we run no ad network.
What your browser keeps locally
Your recent searches, your theme, and any map you built before signing up live in your browser’s local storage so you do not lose them. Clearing your browser data clears them.
A checkout in progress — the room you picked, the dates and the details you typed — is held in session storage until the booking finishes. It has to be: the payment step hands you to our partner and back, and without it the booking would not survive the return trip. It is gone when you close the tab, and it never contains a card number.
Controlling cookies
Every major browser lets you see, block and delete cookies, and clear local storage — usually under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking the session cookie will sign you out and prevent you signing back in; everything else is safe to block, and the site will simply forget your preferences.
We honour the Global Privacy Control signal where your browser sends one. Because we neither sell nor share personal information, the signal changes nothing about what we do, but we register it.
