Baquedano Street, originally known as Santa Rosa Street and then as Huancavelica Street prior to 1883, is a long avenue in the old quarter of Iquique, Chile. It is a popular tourist attraction and is a "typical zone", a status that preserves its historical and architectural heritage. It is characterized by its late 19th and early 20th-century houses built of wood from Europe.

The 1877 Iquique earthquake occurred at 21:16 local time on 9 May. It had a magnitude of 8.5 on the surface-wave magnitude scale. Other estimates of its magnitude have been as high as 8.9 Mw and 9.0 Mt. It had a maximum intensity of XI (Extreme) on the Mercalli intensity scale and triggered a devastating tsunami.

The Mirador Playa Brava is a high-rise residential building complex in Iquique, Chile. Built between 2012 and 2017, the complex consists of two towers standing at 95 m (312 ft) tall with 36 floors respectively 91 m (299 ft) tall with 37 floors. The towers are the current 4th and 6th tallest building in Chile.
